Name: Grace Cho
Hometown?: Damascus, MD
Why did you intern in the gallery?: I thought it was an interesting job, and I want to pursue a career in curating/museum work.
What has been your favorite memory from your job?: Handling art works in the collection and helping set up exhibitions in general is pretty fun.
Do you plan to pursue anything in the arts post-grad? If not, what are your plans?: I want to a pursue a career in curating. But, more immediately after graduation, I intend to travel and intern in galleries and museums internationally.
Favorite artist/work and why?: Wu GuanZhong. “White Clouds White Walls.” 2002. Oil on board (National Gallery Singapore) The simplicity, the immediacy and sense of what it is he painted, a sense of blinding sunlight reflecting off of white walls with washed out colors and pale blue skies—I love it.
Hobbies?: I love to cook, mostly Korean but some Japanese, and I enjoy coffee with a good book.
Little known fact about you?: My ideal is a minimalist lifestyle, which I guess can be understood through my goal by the end of this year is to get rid of half of what I own. Minimalism means different things for different people, but for me it means to own conscientiously—every object I own was carefully chosen and have an intended purpose.
And finally, if you could have a meal with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?: My grandfather on my mom’s side. He unfortunately passed away before my mother married, but the stories I heard about his life and the few remaining artworks he created when he was alive have always been a source of inspiration for me.
We will continue to interview many of our amazing interns in the coming days, so keep checking the blog for more!
