Davidson National Print & Drawing Competition

Van Every Gallery
On View: March 26, 1972— April 23, 1972

The Van Every Gallery presented the Davidson National Print and Drawing Competition annually from 1972-1976. One of the earliest exhibitions organized by Professor Emeritus Herb Jackson, each year the Davidson National drew thousands of entries and featured a prominent juror.

Davidson National Print & Drawing Competition exhibitions were held in the Spring. The juror was 1973 was Clement Greenberg; the juror for 1974 was Walter Darby Bannard; 1975 brought Judith Goldman to campus as juror; and in 1976 we were honored to have Marcia Tucker jury the entries.

Over the five years of the Davidson National Print & Drawing Competition, we purchased more than 50 works of art or the college’s permanent art collection, including works by artists Peter Milton, Robert Motherwell, Isabel Bishop and Alexander Calder.

Below you will find the brochures from the Davidson National Print and Drawing Competitions.
