When it came time to select my art for ArtMate, I had my heart set on a specific piece and just hoped it was still available. Thankfully, it was! Before the selection event, I’d been eyeing The Printsellers by John H. Hunter, thinking it would fit perfectly in my room. I’m not sure if it was the mix of purple, green, and yellow or the lively scene that drew me in, but I was captivated.
Now that it’s in my room, I find myself admiring it constantly, trying to figure out what’s happening in the piece. The Printsellers features two larger characters—presumably the printsellers—along with various little creatures and a sky filled with the moon, a shooting star, and the sun. The featured creatures all seem to have a look of worry about their face while the printsellers seem focused on their craft. It feels like the printsellers are just trying to make sense of the chaotic world around them, which is something I feel that we can all relate to as the semester progresses.
Overall, I love the color and energy this piece brings to my space, and I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to participate in ArtMate.
